Road Trip!

July 13th, 2010

Hope all is well with everyone. As for me, I have had a few challenges in the last week but everything seemed to fall right into place. I have a guardian angel watching out for me.

Last week we helped our oldest son move out.

Our son.

Our son.

It was bittersweet. He’s now going to stretch his wings and soar with the eagles. He’s got big plans for his life to become a Lawyer. I now have to readjust my whole way of thinking. He’s grown up now. I will miss him terribly.

(Note: He’s sitting in front of the Flamethrower Sandwich Meal Deal poster!)

Our day started out quirky. We stopped at Sam Levitz to pick up a table and our Uhaul wouldn’t start. Thought we should turn around and go home then. We didn’t even think that we’d even make it to our destination. After our mechanic friend talked us through the problem, my husband was able to start the truck. Success and on the road again!

It was a nice blistering day, 105 or 108. Doesn’t really matter after 100….it’s hot! It didn’t help that our air conditioning wasn’t working either : ( Heat was pouring off the engine and through the windows. As we had a desperate need for cold air, my husband turned on the air again, in hopes this time it would work. We started smelling a burnt smell. The temperature gauge was almost buried. My husband took the turn off at Picacho Peak. Pulled into the Dairy Queen/gas station.

Dairy Queen at Picacho Peak!

Dairy Queen at Picacho Peak!

There in the cab was a huge puddle of coolant. Much to our dismay, the hose had blown off. We thought we had totally fried the engine. My husband sent me and my son over to the gas station across the street in hopes to find a mechanic or towing company. A lovely lady at the pavilion gave us a card for EDDIE’S TOWING Service.

Wonderful Fast Service!

Wonderful Fast Service!

I called right away. They were covered under our towing plan with our auto insurance. There was a mechanic that could help us right up the hill. Perfect! They told us it would be about 55 minutes…… Now anyone who has ever waited for a service person knows to assume that it will be much longer. They never come when they say they’re going to… What a wonderful surprise we had when EDDIE’S TOWING SERVICE arrived in 20 minutes!!!! It took a little bit to get our truck on and off the towing bed but everything turned out just fine.

At the garage, Jim, the mechanic assessed the situation, “Oh, yeah I can fix it!”. It took maybe an hour to complete the work. We needed a small part and he had only one left. The most difficult part of the job was just trying to get the silly thing on. It was situated in a difficult position. It was hard to maneuver. We were thrilled. They had the part we needed. They were quick and professional. Can’t say enough about the Picacho Peak Garage. Reasonably priced and very helpful.

Thanks Jim for all your help! We appreciated that you were there to fix the situation. It could have been a miserable day but you helped everything fall into place. Thank you so much : )

As we were waiting for the work to be done, I thought, since it was the 4th of July weekend, it was only right and fitting to take this picture…..

We also met this gentleman and his son at the garage. They are touring the United States on their bikes. They were coming from Florida and are planning to winter in California. Amazing stamina.

Since we’re in the hot sauce business, I had to check out the products at the little gift shop attached to the Dairy Queen and eat a Dairy Queen chili dog. They carry the Southwest Specialty/Ass Kicking products like I do and some Cahill products. If you come to our Wild West Hot Sauce store in Tucson located at 6541 E. Tanque Verde Rd. Ste. #18 by the Famous Pinnacle Peak Restaurant in Trail Dust Town, we’ll definitely be able to hook you up! The map is on our website. Oh, btw, the chili dog was scrumptious.

We finally made it to our destination. We ate at Fatburger.

Our son is getting married in January to a lovely girl. They make a wonderful looking couple. We wish them all the best.

The lovely couple!

The lovely couple!

We’re happy to say we made it home safely. Our son is doing well in his new surroundings. We’ve come to a new chapter in our lives. Each day we’re faced with challenges. You can either get “burned” by them or figure they’re going to add “spice” to your life. Our day worked out well thanks to a handful of people that added their special “spice” to the mix. Thank you.

Until the next time…..may your days be filled with flavor!!

Hi again!

Hope you all had fun on Father’s Day! I sure did. Lots of people came out to Trail Dust Town. It was great to see all the families.

In the store, we sampled (2) products by JC Midnite Salsa – Chipotle Garlic and Hotter N’ Hell. Well, we got a bright idea…we’re going to start taking photos and/or videos of people sampling products..get their reactions : )

My first willing participant Steve Bart of Toys-N-Tiques of Trail Dust Town. He tried the hotter one, Hotter n’ Hell. jcmidnitesalsaone

Give The Bart Man a round of applause! Thanks Steve for helping out : )

JC’s Midnite Salsa is a 100% all natural Gourmet product. No preservatives. No fat and low in sodium.

JC’s favorite recipe:

Mix half salsa with half sour cream or cottage cheese. Heat your chips and dip away! It’s simple but delicious. Perfect for parties.

Well, there’s many more to come. Also, thinking I’d like to have a BYOS party – BRING YOUR OWN SAUCE or Salsa to pass and share the pain Party. Check in and let me know what you think. Maybe make it a once a month thing.

Until the next time….

I’m back with an important message!

June 18th, 2010

Hello again.

Back now from a short sabbatical. After Wednesday night, I’m here to remind you of the importance of taking care of and being responsible for our furry friends!

Trail Dust Town, where my Wild West Hot Sauce store is located, is home to several cats. We are honored as they have “adopted” us. We care and feed them. They wander about at their leisure. A wonderful veterinarian next door attends to their medical needs, especially spaying and neutering. Sometimes, other strays see how very cool our place is and come to hang out. Those cats are not spayed or neutered.

On Wednesday, we had to find yet another home for a cuddly little gray tabby kitten. It’s getting harder and harder to find homes where they will be well taken care of.

So, in my efforts to support responsible pet ownership, I’m highlighting one of my vendors in the store, Sheila Bowden of Sierra Originals & Busy Paws, which is a Tucson-based company which designs and produces many different gift items for people and pets, ie: potholders, kitchen towels, coasters, baby bibs, appliqued onesies , toddler t-shirts, luggage tags, pet toys(shaped like cactus, chile peppers, bones with kokopellis), bandannas, and aprons. All of the profits are donated for spaying and neutering cats and dogs in our community.

Spaying and neutering helps to reduce the number of homeless and unwanted animals in animal shelters and roaming the streets.

Sierra Originals/Busy Paws was started in 1998. In 2008, customer purchases enabled them to donate $1900. The donations in 2009 were $3600. They have set a goal for $4800 for 2010. Thank you to all of you who’ve helped the effort!

A testimonial from Jessica B. –
I had purchased and brought home the kitty toy shaped like a red pepper(chile pepper) filled with catnip. My cat just loved it! He enjoyed it so much!

Thanks Jessica B. for visiting us!

Take a look at the website under the “Non-food items” to see some of Sheila’s wonderful items.

Take care. Look forward to seeing you soon. Until then………..

May your days be filled with flavor : )

New Store Window Display. Developing New Sauces. Helping to sponsor the Relight the Night Event @ the Kontiki!

Lots of stuff happening this month! It’s a bit exciting, really. I’ve updated the store window. I’ve started to develop my own sauces for the business and there’s an exciting upcoming event at the Kontiki called Relight the Night.

Since there are so many sauces out there, I need to be unique and creative. I’m taking a poll. What do you feel is missing from the sauces that are out there? What would you like so see on the market these days? I think getting public opinion would be beneficial! Post your comments. I’d love to hear from you.

I’m posting some photos here so have a look see. Comments, suggestions and insight are always welcome!

I’ll keep you updated on my progress.

‘Twas the Night Before Valentine’s Day!

February 14th, 2010

‘Twas the night before Valentine’s Day when all through the store all the people were bustling… they needed to get more!

More salsa, more hot sauce even mixes and jellies. A spicy or sweet taste for everyone’s belly.

The hearts in the window were hung there with care.

In hopes that Cupid would soon be there;

The children were playing instead of in beds,

While visions of prickly pear danced in their heads;

When out in the town there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

As the moon came to rest it gave off a warm glow.

Gave a lustre of mid-day to objects below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

but our Eight Pistolero’s and our roper of steer’s

The gang’s team leader was lively and quick,

I knew in a moment it must do the trick.

So he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

“Now, people! now, people now, people I say

Our Wild West Stunt Show is clearly on its way!

To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!

There’s high falls & low falls and entertainment for all!”

So up to the roof-top the pistoleros flew
With the sack full of money and gun toten too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof

The stamping and stomping of each little boot.

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,

Down the ladder St. Valentine’s came with a bound.

He was dressed all in denim, from his head to his foot,

And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;

A sack full of sauces he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes — how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,

And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;

He had a broad face and a little round belly,

That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, and took a look at my shelf,

And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And filled all the shelves; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his finger aside of his nose,

And giving a nod, up the ladder he rose;

He sprang to his wagon, to his team gave a whistle,

And they rode out of sight like the down of a missile….”oh, my gosh!! Save the women and children : )”

I heard him exclaim, as he rode out of sight,

“Happy Valentine’s to all, and to all a good-night.”

** We had fun tonight. Did a bit of sampling of a Pure Jalapeno puree from Southwest Specialty foods and Lil’ Sassy’s – Salsa for Wimps. And, Mo says, “That’s doggone tasty!”
Thanks Mo for coming in tonight!

“The Native American flute has achieved some measure of fame for its distinctive sound, used in a variety of New Age and world music recordings. The instrument was originally very personal; its music was played without accompaniment in courtship, healing, meditation, and spiritual rituals. Now it is played solo or along with other instruments or vocals both in Native American music and in other styles. It is one of 3 original instruments found in most indigenous cultures along with the drum and rattle, and early flutes were made of bone, such as eagle bone.” (cited from www.rainbowflutes.com)
